About

We built CertPrep because the prep market was failing the people who needed it most.

Specialty certifications — CIH, CSP, CHMM, CHFM, NABCEP-PV — are tied to contracts, licences, regulator requirements, and renewal deadlines that real careers and real companies depend on. The prep options stayed at “$2,000 weekend bootcamp” or “outdated PDF on a forum.” We thought there was a third option.

The observation

Watch any EHS coordinator the week before an audit. They’re chasing completion certificates from three different vendors, cross-referencing renewal dates against the HRIS, and assembling a per-employee evidence packet by hand. Watch any safety lead the week before a client RFP. Same scramble, different deadline. The pattern is identical across industries: individual cert prep is fragmented and the team layer doesn’t exist at all. Reimbursement scattered across vendors, no shared view of who’s ready to sit, evidence reconstructed under deadline pressure every time. Solve the team layer first, and the individual prep becomes the deliverable.

The thesis

CertPrep is a long-tail certification prep platform. Most prep providers chase mass-market credentials — IT certs, project-management certs, the credentials with hundreds of thousands of annual candidates. The specialty cert market, where each credential has 5,000–50,000 annual candidates, is ignored. That’s exactly where the deepest pain sits.

EHS, healthcare safety, environmental, and trade credentials are career-critical, contract-tied, and often regulator- required. We built blueprint-aligned banks on peer-reviewed learning-science methods, and we kept the per-seat price low enough that licensing a whole team is cheaper than sending one person to a bootcamp.

The wedge is the team layer. Most prep platforms compete on individual cert preparation. CertPrep does that too — and well — but the unlock is the admin dashboard, readiness scoring, and per-employee training-record export. None of that exists elsewhere in the specialty cert market, and it’s exactly what HR, procurement, insurance, and corporate compliance are asking for. The team buys for the team layer; the individual prep is the product they receive.

Who’s behind this

Founder

Albert Jordaan

Albert is a multi-disciplinary builder who has spent his career operating at the intersection of energy, safety, and software. He’s watched the same cert-prep gap from every side — from the candidate sitting the exam, the team lead trying to keep a renewal pipeline producing, and the buyer being asked to justify the line item. CertPrep is his answer.

Subject-matter reviewers

CertPrep’s editorial pipeline pairs structured authoring with subject-matter review. Every question is read, edited, or rejected by a practising credential-holder before it reaches the bank. As we expand the catalogue, we expand the reviewer network — covering the credentials we’re actively shipping banks for. We do not name individual reviewers publicly without their explicit consent.

What we believe

  • Specialty certifications matter. They tie to contracts, licences, and renewal deadlines that real careers and real companies depend on. The prep should respect that.
  • Learning science beats marketing. Spaced repetition, retrieval practice, self-explanation, and calibration are the four methods with the strongest published evidence for durable knowledge. Every CertPrep session sits on them. See the methodology →
  • The team layer is the missing piece. Individual prep is broken; the admin / readiness / training- record layer is absent. The training record is what HR, procurement, and insurance actually ask for — so we built it into the prep itself.
  • Long-tail credentials, on demand. We add new banks every month — driven by what teams ask for. If your cert has a published exam blueprint, we can usually stand up a new bank within weeks. See the catalogue →
  • No fake seals. No implied affiliation. We are not yet an approved provider of any cert body. We say so clearly and pursue formal endorsement on the strength of passing-rate results, not branding.
